ARTICLE XI PROVISIONS GOVERNING OPEN SPACE AND RECREATION

SECTION 1101 "0" OPEN SPACE AND RECREATION:

The Open Space and Recreation District is designed to reserve green belts through the Township as usable public or common open space for permanent recreational sites as the Township experiences growth. The Open Space and Recreation Districts are designated on environmentally vulnerable land such as steeply sloping land, marshland, waterways or conservation lands. The recreational districts shall be oriented toward (in open space planning and acquisition activities) recreational opportunities such as parklands for various activities including miscellaneous open field games, swimming, hiking, picnicking, boating, etc.

• A. Permitted Uses:
  • Waterway impoundments to be used for the following recreational purposes:
  • Fishing;
  • Canoeing and sailboating.
  • Camp lodges;
  • Open Space for informal play;
  • Comfort stations;
  • Hunting lodge;
  • Marinas;
  • Natural and hiking trails;
  • Sled, snow mobiles, off road motorcycles or quad runners facilities;
  • Agricultural involving no permanent change of land use from forest lands;
  • Picnicking facilities;
  • Pole buildings consistent with all requirements of this Ordinance;
  • Timbering pursuant to §1412;
  • Nature centers; and
  • Cemeteries
  • Forest Reservoir.
• B. Lot Coverage:
  No More than 5% of the total lot area shall be covered with buildings, pavement or structures.
• C. Set Back:
  Shall be 25 feet from each property line.
• D. Permitted Accessory Uses:
  • 1. Garage and maintenance sheds;
  • 2. Concessionary buildings;
  • 3. Customary accessory uses and buildings provided such are clearly incidental to the principal use and do not include any activity commonly conducted as a business.
• E. Permitted Intensive Recreational Uses:
  • Totlot
  • Playground;
  • Neighborhood Community Park;
  • Community Recreation Center;
  • Playfield;
  • Regional Park;
  • Swimming Pool; and
  • Golf Course.

  Lot Size For Recreation Types:
  Recreation Space By Type	Minimum Area Needed to Function
  Play or Totlot (Contains play apparati)	1/8 Acre to 1/4 acre
  Playground (Contains playfield, paved courts and play apparati)	3 to 5 Acres
  Neighborhood Community Park (Contains open play areas picnicking facilities, court games, play apparati, and natural areas)	7 Acres if not adjoining playground or field
  Neighborhood Recreation Center	Depends upon facilities desi and population
  Playfield (Contains field and court games and parking)	10 Acres
  Regional or District Park (Contains variety of Activeand passive recreation facilities)	20 + Acres if City -- 50 Acres if regional

• F. Uses Permitted by Special Exception:
  Shooting ranges or other activity involving regular discharge of firearms.
